German patent law requires the invention to have a 'technical character' (Technizität). Computer programs and methods are patentable only if they produce a 'further technical effect' beyond the normal physical interactions between the program and the computer. DPMA and German courts (BGH) have developed a substantial body of jurisprudence — often stricter than CNIPA but more liberal than early EPO technical effect doctrine.
